New $5,000
Scholarship for California University Junior and Senior
Undergraduate Students Studying Transportation |
The California Transportation Foundation is pleased to announce a
new, annual $5,000 scholarship available to junior and senior
undergraduate students attending four-year California universities,
majoring in transportation-related fields who attend the yearly CTF
Transportation Education Symposium. Only the thirty-five
students who are accepted to and attend the CTF Transportation
Education Symposium will receive scholarship applications in
November. The $5,000 award will be presented in Sacramento in
March at the CTF Transportation Forum. Students will be
eligible even if they graduate between the Symposium in November and
presentation of the award in March. Transportation-related
majors include, but are not limited to, transportation planning,
urban planning, civil engineering, and bridge engineering. |
The program begins
in 2007, with the Transportation Education Symposium, November
15-16. Students must be nominated to attend the Transportation
Education Symposium by a professor of a transportation-related
class. Information about the Symposium will be distributed to
professors in August. For more
information about the Symposium please click here. |

Additional
Scholarship Programs |
CTF’s commitment to our other scholarship programs continues. In
2006, together with sponsoring partners, CTF awarded 54 scholarship
grants, totaling $41,800, more than in any prior year. CTF
contributed $7,450 of the total. All scholarships support students
pursuing a transportation career. |
CTF limits scholarship eligibility to California residents majoring in
transportation-related fields, and the various scholarships may have additional restrictions, for example one is
limited to students studying planning, another to engineering majors, etc. For more information about
applying for a scholarship contact Heinz Heckeroth at (916) 453-1767 or at

Establishing a
Scholarship |
Setting up a scholarship fund correctly requires legal filings with the IRS, audits,
and time spent analyzing financial records. CTF streamlines the process by serving as the fiscal agent for
people wishing to establish a transportation scholarship fund. Donations large and small, earmarked for
specific scholarship funds, trickle into CTF throughout the year.
Organizations such as Caltrans Districts have created scholarship committees to
select worthy students and direct CTF to write grants using their program funds. The first year an organization comes to CTF to set up a scholarship, the Foundation
directly contributes fifty percent of the money being awarded. The next year and thereafter, CTF’s donation
is twenty-five percent. Some scholarship sponsors convert their scholarships to one that is perpetually
endowed. |
